During 2019, Charles established the first 'Charlie’s Spot' in Norwood, Johannesburg which, from the onset, proved to be popular with guests requiring accommodation that is comfortable, safe and secure in a homely atmosphere and in close proximity to shops, malls and restaurants. Says Charles: ‘As I have been working my entire life, the passive life of retirement seems like the opposite of freedom. Sitting around just isn't my thing. I couldn't think of anything else to do and had nothing to work on. I then started a venture in hospitality, offering a homely and sophisticated overnight accommodation experience. I set up 'Charlie's Spot' in Norwood, ideally located off Grant Avenue, known for its many restaurants, fast food outlets and various shops. A valuable factor is meeting fascinating people from all over South Africa and the world and in doing so, have become friends with many of our guests.’
